Berg is committed to providing and maintaining a safe workplace environment for every individual and every work activity by establishing a set of procedures and policies. These are in accordance with all applicable safety, health, and environmental regulations to uphold this commitment.

Berg’s utmost priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of each and every individual. We are constantly reviewing how safety standards are implemented and we are always looking for new and innovative methods to reduce our employees' exposure to risk. We encourage employee participation in all safety initiatives in identifying and eliminating workplace hazards.

Berg seeks to continuously train all employees on the importance of maintaining workplace health and safety along with the best practices for identifying and preventing occupational safety hazards in the workplace.

Among these include the completion of Compliance Webinar Online Training modules for new hires as part of the onboarding process such as the WHMIS webinar training and the Worker Health and Safety Awareness in Four Steps webinar training sponsored by the Ministry of Labour. Apart from that, the Occupational Health & Safety policy has been mandated in the employee handbook which indicates that every employee has the duty and responsibility to themselves and their fellow employees to be fit for duty, to work safely, and to report and, if possible, correct any workplace hazards.

In addition, Berg has a Respectful Workplace as well as an Anti-Discrimination and Harassment policy which seeks for the company to take all reasonable steps to provide employees with a work and service environment that respects the dignity, self-worth and human rights of every individual hat is free of any form of discrimination, including harassment and bullying.

All workers at Berg are provided with all the necessary protective equipment and tools to perform their duties safely, including but not limited to helmets, ear protection, safety goggles, knee pads, and high visibility jackets.

Regular equipment cleaning and maintenance schedules are designed to prevent accidents and injuries. In addition, a company log of all equipment in use has been created to record the key points in need of inspection.

Berg also values open and ongoing communication about improving health and safety in the workplace. Workers at Berg are encouraged to share their safety concerns and raise red flags about potential vulnerabilities and risks by facilitating ongoing conversations about safety and its importance.

Our Berg culture is a safety-first culture

Berg aims to build and maintain a strong safety-first culture in every aspect of the workplace and is continuously taking the following actions:

  • Examining the workplace to identify potential risks and removing them when possible
  • Designing and implementing measures and procedures to avoid worker’s unsafe behaviors and guide them to perform their work safely
  • Nurturing and enforcing the managers' and staff awareness about potential or actual hazards in the working area
  • Conducting periodic safety inspections within the workplace and immediately addressing any at-risk behaviors or unsafe situations that are reported or noticed
  • Listening actively to employees’ thoughts and welcoming all suggestions on establishing a safe working environment
  • Maintaining a clear and positive safety reporting process and reviewing the current practices based on worker’s feedback and experience

Berg goes through a rigorous quality control process to ensure that all designs and construction work are completed in the safest way possible and according to industry standards.

  1. Preparatory stage: Evaluate the task on hand and review what guidance or policy needs to be complied with and what safety precautions are needed to pay attention to.
  2. Initial stage: Ensure that all elements in the work have met all the safety standards and are completely safe for the work to be done.
  3. Follow-up stage: Monitor all work in progress from time to time to ensure that all requirements have been met and that the work has been completed successfully.
