Today’s recreational facilities demand the highest standards when it comes to engineering ice rink refrigeration systems. To exceed stakeholder’s expectations and meet government regulatory compliance, a trustworthy cooling solution must be cost-effective, efficient, and robust enough to handle the rigorous demands of the recreational sports sector. For 40 years, Berg has provided industrial process temperature control solutions to more than 100 clients across the globe with chilling, pumping, and freezing equipment to achieve superior curling and skating ice surfaces for the global ice rink equipment market.
Whether you are in need of an Ammonia ice rink chiller or a synthetic ice rink cooling system for hockey ice rinks, outdoor skating rinks or curling rink refrigeration systems, tap Berg to design and manufacture an ice rink cooling system that will be a trusted backbone of your operation for years to come. We will help you select the optimal refrigerant type to meet your application’s economic and functional needs, whether it is freon, ammonia or carbon dioxide. Plus, our custom skid-mounted or built-up design enables the flexibility to allow you to maintain a compact footprint and integrate the chilling system into your existing facility.
Berg recreational ice chiller systems come equipped with high system efficiency features and high-efficiency motors, have 100% heat recovery capability, include low refrigerant charge, brine or glycol pumping stations, an integrated ice rink and central rink controllers, built-up system redundancy, and are factory performance and functionally tested prior to shipment to ensure reduced on-site assembly and minimal disruption to your operation.
In 2018, Berg was able to help the Indiana Ice Arena, home of the Indy Fuel of the East Coast Hockey League, achieve its operational goals. The arena wanted to replace its aging ice hockey rink cooling system and shift to a more energy-efficient and eco-friendly synthetic refrigerant. With its turnkey replacement of its hockey rink chiller, the arena became the first professional hockey organization in America to use Chemours Opteon XP10, the official refrigerant of the NHL.
The synthetic hockey rink refrigeration system included two skid mounted water-cooled modular chiller packages (each with dual circuit chillers), two compact screw compressors, four brazed plate evaporators, and four shell and tube condensers with refrigerant and electrical controls. Lastly, Berg's ice rink refrigeration specialists made sure that the arena's chiller skating rink system's operations were smooth by testing and starting up the system as well as training the Indiana Ice Arena rink operators and staff.
In 2018, Berg provided a turnkey replacement of the synthetic ice rink refrigeration system for the National Gallery of Art's Sculpture Garden Ice Rink. The seasonal ice rink was in need of an upgrade, and with Berg's expertise, the rink was able to operate just in time for the ice rink season. The ice rink cooling system included a skid mounted indoor ice rink chiller with a water-cooled condenser producing 130TR supplied in two modules (due to space restrictions), an electrical panel with touch screen HMI, heat reclaim tank unit with buffer, snowmelt pump and circulation pump. Berg's ice rink refrigeration experts also ensured a seamless operation of the new system by performing the demolition and removal of the original chiller, along with mechanical installation and commissioning of the new system.
Berg custom designs, manufactures, installs, and services cost-effective cooling solutions for recreational ice rinks. Berg’s refrigeration experts know chilling down to the core. Putting the customer’s challenges at the heart of every design, Berg sales engineers apply unmatched energy management experience to create built-up or skid-mounted systems using both ammonia and synthetic refrigerants, including indoor, outdoor, and portable ice rink chillers.
