In 2020, Berg had the opportunity to help the Ken Houston Memorial Agricultural Centre in Ontario achieve its operational goals. The arena was due for refurbishing and upgrading its ice rink. With the client's priorities in mind, Berg's refrigeration experts came up with a custom-designed ammonia ice rink refrigeration system that matched the client's exact requirements.
The ammonia refrigeration service featured the replacement of the municipal ice rink’s aging ice rink chiller with a new ammonia plate and frame chiller. The replacement involved the installation and placement of new low charge 90TR chiller package with new insulation for surge vessel, level eyes in drop leg for visual indication of liquid level, extended liquid leg with isolation and deadman valve or oil drainage and new 4” isolation valves in the suction line. The ammonia service also featured the pump-out and recovery of ammonia and brine on the ice rink chiller, vertical ammonia surge drum and PLC controls. Lastly, Berg's ice rink refrigeration specialists made sure that rink chiller operations were smooth by testing and commissioning the ammonia refrigeration system as well as training the Ken Houston Memorial Agricultural Centre rink operators and staff.
